Child Safety Policy

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to demonstrate the commitment of Box Hill Ballet Association to the safety, protection and wellbeing of all children and young people in our care. We aim to maintain a child safe and child friendly environment where children feel safe and have fun. Box Hill Ballet Association has zero tolerance for child abuse and is committed to acting in our student’s best interests.

Child Safe Principals

Box Hill Ballet Association is committed to maintaining a child safe culture, and to regularly review our policies and procedures.

  • All children have the fundamental right to safety and protection from abuse and neglect.

  • Child safety and protection is a legal and moral responsibility of all staff, contractors and volunteers.

  • Box Hill Ballet Association has procedures that support the engagement of appropriate personnel to work with children. This applies to all staff, volunteers and third party contractors who have direct contact with children.

  • Working with Children Checks are required for relevant staff, and induction is carried out.

  • Box Hill Ballet Association is committed to providing appropriate training and support to staff to assist in providing a safe environment for children.

  • Students are valued for their individuality and are treated with respect, courtesy and fairness. The views of our students and their privacy are respected at all times.

  • Students with a disability, vulnerability or from diverse backgrounds and their families are welcomed, including those who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Discrimination is not tolerated.

  • Box Hill Ballet Association will respond to alleged or suspected incidents of child abuse, and act promptly.

  • Families are kept informed, and involved in keeping children and young people safe.

  • Processes for complaints and concerns are child focused. We listen to and act on any concerns children, or their parents, raise with us.

Child Safety Code of Conduct

This Child Safety Code of Conduct for Box Hill Ballet Association, outlines appropriate standards of behaviour for all adults towards children. The Code serves to protect children and promote child safety and wellbeing.

General Principles when interacting with children and young people:

  • Adhere to our Child Safety Policy and all relevant state and federal legislation.

  • Take all reasonable steps to protect children from abuse and harm.

  • Promote the safety, welfare and wellbeing of all children and young people.

  • Be vigilant and proactive regarding child safety and child protection issues.

  • Provide appropriate supervision for children and young people.

  • Treat all children and young people with respect.
